Thomas H. Lindquist, ASA
Tom Lindquist is a health care consultant and executive coach with more than 20 years of experience in healthcare and C-suite leadership at Prudential Insurance Company and UnitedHealth Group.
Mr. Lindquist began his career at Prudential working on the supplemental health insurance program offered to members of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP). At Prudential, he held a variety of positions with responsibility for product pricing and rate filing for Long Term Care, Hospital Indemnity and Medicare Supplement products. Mr. Lindquist was also involved in numerous efforts to develop new products and services for AARP members.
After UnitedHealth Group’s assumption of the AARP contract in 1997, Mr. Lindquist stepped into a series of senior leadership roles. As President of the AARP Division, he oversaw claim processing, new product development, pricing and compliance for the supplemental health insurance products offered to AARP. Though he inherited a deteriorating book of business, Mr. Lindquist instituted a series of changes that successfully streamlined operations and strengthened the product offerings.
Mr. Lindquist was subsequently named Chief Operating Officer of Ovations, UnitedHealth Group’s subsidiary focused on meeting the health and well-being needs of people 50 and older. As Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Lindquist provided day-to-day leadership for a diverse set of Medicare and Medicaid-based businesses operating in insurance, managed care, care management and pharmacy. As Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Lindquist oversaw the $13 billion acquisition of PacifiCare, the rapid expansion of Evercare, a care management program for the frail elderly, and Ovations’ entry into the Medicare Part D program. Ovations revenues grew from $5 billion dollars to $30 billion company during Mr. Lindquist’s tenure.
Mr. Lindquist has also held senior level positions within UnitedHealth Group, including Senior Vice President of Product Development and Chief Executive Officer of United Retiree Solutions, a company he created to deliver products and solutions to meet the diverse needs of existing and emerging retirees. Mr. Lindquist grew this company from inception to a $4 billion business.
Mr. Lindquist is a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and an associate of the Society of Actuaries. He also served on the Academy Task Force on expanding Choice for Medicare Beneficiaries.
A graduate of Pennsylvania State University, Mr. Lindquist holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, with a Business Option.
