Marius Hansen

Marius Hansen is the Managing Director and a founding member of Tysvar, LLC, a newly created, privately-held, Minnesota-based New Green Economy (NGE) and health care reform incubator founded by Lois Quam, an internationally recognized visionary and leader on the emerging NGE and universal health care reform.

Prior to joining Ms. Quam at Tysvar in March 2009, Mr. Hansen was actively involved with strategic investments in the emerging NGE and health care at Piper Jaffray, a leading international Minneapolis-based investment bank, reporting directly to Ms. Quam. At Piper Jaffray, Ms. Quam and Mr. Hansen expanded the firm’s franchise in three areas of the NGE: Science, Public Policy, and Commerce.

Before joining Piper Jaffray in 2008, Mr. Hansen served as senior financial analyst for UnitedHealth Group, the largest U.S. health care insurance company. Mr. Hansen held various investor relations and corporate finance posts and responsibilities within UHG’s Public and Senior Markets Group, including budget responsibility for the company’s $14 billion Medicare Advantage business.

Mr. Hansen graduated magna cum laude from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN, in 2005, with a B.A. in Economics and awarded the distinguished 3M scholar award. While still a student and working in Macalester’s investment office alongside the Chief Investment Officer, Board of Trustees, and the Investment Committee, which at the time managed nearly $500 million, Mr. Hansen was credited with redesigning and streamlining processes resulting in greater efficiencies and savings. Today, Macalester’s endowment is ranked in the top 10% among peer institutions.

A native of Sandefjord, Norway, Mr. Hansen is deeply committed to U.S. and Norwegian diplomatic and trade relations, and he serves on the board of the Midwest chapter of the Norwegian American Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Hansen also works closely with Terje Mikalsen, one of Norway’s most prominent entrepreneurs and venture capitalists, and the driving force behind the Norwegian American Clean Tech Alliance (NACTA), an organization committed to increasing collaboration between Norway and the US regarding Clean Technology.

Mr. Hansen is an avid runner and has completed a marathon in all 50 states.
